Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company

The Rehoboth Fire Company was organized in 1906. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company provides fire and ambulance protection to three incorporated towns. They are Rehoboth Beach followed by Dewey Beach and Henlopen Acres.

Station one is located on Rehoboth Ave. The center section of the building was built in 1949. The twin west section was built in 1958, and the final section was added on in 1975. In 1993, the main entrance of the firehouse was remodeled and a bell tower was constructed to house the original 1906 fire bell.

The Lewes Fire Department

In 1796 a group of concerned citizens met and organized for fire protection. Of course, fire protection at that time consists of leather buckets and a town bell to alert citizens of a fire in the community. The buckets and ladders were placed in five districts which comprised the town.

Since 1796 citizens of Lewes have stepped forward to join the ranks of the town's volunteer fire service. For two hundred years the ranks have been filled with men and women wanting to provide Service For Others.

The current Station 1 was built in 1992 replacing the fire house that was purchased in 1931. This building has many modern features including sleeping quarters for the volunteers and a command center for the City of Lewes for major emergencies. A museum room was added in 2007 to house our 1925 American LaFrance antique pumper along with displaying our history.
